ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BEAUTY STUFF

10 Ways to Look and Feel Your Best

How do you think when you look and feel your best in the mirror? That depends on your self-image, and it’s up to you to decide what you see looking back at you. If you see someone who’s slouching, looks tired, or isn’t taking care of themselves properly, then this can help by teaching you some useful tips on how to look and feel your best every day.

Get Rid of Blemishes

Whether you get them on your face or body, blemishes are always a problem. While you can’t exactly make them go away, there are some things you can do to make them less visible so that they don’t ruin your look. For example, you might want to consider getting a facial at a beauty salon or using over-the-counter products like exfoliators. Don’t be surprised if it takes a little trial and error before you find what works best for your skin. When it comes to looking our best, being patient is part of having great skin!

Cleanse Your Skin

Cleansing is an important part of your daily routine, even if you don’t wear makeup. Cleansing will get rid of dirt, grime, and dead skin cells that can clog pores or hide blemishes. For example, rinsing with a cleansing cloth can remove pollutants from your skin that might be making you break out. To cleanse safely but quickly, switch to an unscented cleanser without perfumes or dyes that may irritate your skin. Switching to a more natural skincare routine is one way to start having a healthier lifestyle—and it’s simple enough for anyone in your household!

 Moisturize Properly

This may seem silly, but moisturizing every day is one of your best defenses against looking older. As we age, our skin loses its natural oils, which leads to wrinkles and a crepe-paper effect on our faces. Every morning before you apply makeup or leave for work, grab some lotion (it doesn’t have to be expensive; most drugstore brands will do) and give yourself a quick pat-down. A dab behind your ears, on your cheeks, around your neck—that’s all it takes. If you’re worried about feeling too greasy at work or in public, just let it soak in for five minutes or so before putting on that tight button-up. It’ll keep you hydrated all day long!

Use Fragrance Wisely

Many fragrances contain harmful chemicals. To protect your health and avoid unnecessary exposure, limit your use of scented products. If you must use a fragrance, choose one that is natural or green and look for it on EWG’s Skin Deep database of more than 75,000 personal care products. The best thing you can do for your body is to avoid using scented products; but if you decide to continue using them, at least make sure they are as safe as possible.

Set Up a Skincare Routine

The first thing you can do is set up a skincare routine. This means figuring out what products are best for your skin type, what time of day is best for application, how often you should be exfoliating or moisturizing—it’s all very specific to your skin. Take time to do research into these questions and soon enough you’ll have a plan in place that keeps your skin looking great. Note: If you don’t know where to start, ask friends or family who work in beauty—they may have tried and tested products they love!

Eat Healthily

Eat your fruits and veggies! Not only are they full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, etc., but they’re also super low in calories. The more colorful your diet is, from berries to greens, from sweet potatoes to apples, from carrots to broccoli (and beyond), you’ll get a lot of bang for your caloric buck. Plus, a healthy diet will help you look and feel your best by keeping your skin clear and hair shiny—the more vibrant you are inside out, the more attractive you’ll be. And it goes without saying that a healthy diet means fewer cravings for unhealthy foods like junk food or fast food.

 Sleep Well

It’s no secret that sleep is good for you. When we don’t get enough sleep, our energy levels suffer and it becomes more difficult to make healthy choices about what we eat. That’s not just bad for your waistline. Getting enough sleep has also been shown to improve memory, concentration, and productivity at work (which is good news if you have a full-time job in addition to being an entrepreneur). So if there’s one thing on our list of 10 ways to look and feel your best that everyone should do every day, it’s making sure they get enough quality rest each night.

Wear Sunscreen

When you think of sunscreen, do you picture yourself as a fifteen-year-old on vacation, running through puddles with friends? We all know that’s no longer your reality. So apply sunscreen liberally every day—and make sure it offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays (SPF is only one part of that). You can use lotion or gels, but I’ve found creams tend to work better for my combination skin. Try La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Melt-in Sunscreen Milk ($29), which contains nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which helps your skin retain moisture.

Don’t Forget Your Eyes

A few hours spent in front of a computer screen can take its toll on your eyes. Avoid headaches by taking breaks, by wearing sunglasses outside, and by not hunching over while you read or do paperwork. If you find yourself constantly squinting or rubbing your eyes, consider seeing an optometrist for an eye exam. You might be surprised by what they find! Also make sure to eat foods rich in vitamins C and E, which are both powerful antioxidants that work inside and outside of your body. And don’t forget how important water is! Staying hydrated throughout your day will help keep you looking young from head to toe—not just from behind those glasses!

Dress Chicly

One of those life hacks we always read about is Dress for success. It’s no surprise that looking good helps us feel confident and positive. So dressing in a way that makes you feel your best can actually help improve your self-esteem, mood, confidence, and motivation—all things which help in making you look and feel your best. On days when you feel like there are so many things on your plate, you don’t have time to give yourself some personal attention, try wearing something that makes you feel good about yourself.
